SCOPE BACKGROUND The U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit SOUTH (NAMRU SOUTH) Bacteriology Department conducts detection, surveillance and characterization of bacterial disease threats to U.S. and host nation service members operating in the SOUTHCOM Area of Responsibility and supports development of novel countermeasures to eliminate those threats.
